Executive Director Volunteer

Foodseum is Chicago’s first nonprofit food museum. That’s right, a physical space completely dedicated to helping anyone discover their passion for food. Through interactive exhibits, educational seminars, unique content, events and programming, Foodseum provides a window into the history, people, farm-to-fork transformations, preparations, international flavors and much more behind the food we all enjoy.

Foodseum is searching for an outgoing and energetic self-starter with a passion for food, culture and education. The Executive Director will work closely with the Foodseum Board of Directors to strategically direct and motivate Foodseum's core volunteer team. Regularly interfacing with the Director of Design, Director of Marketing, Programming and Events Coordinator, Director of People, Director of Video, PR Team, Executive Board, Associate Board and other key volunteers to coordinate strategic goals and continue to grow Foodseum's mission. These responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Defining and executing the long-term mission, strategy, goals and objectives
  • Defining and executing definition of short-term strategic campaigns
  • Break down short-term and long-term strategy into clear, well documented goals for the core team
  • Motivate and encourage the core volunteers
  • Organize and track metrics for the success of goals for each core team function
  • Facilitate communication between all core team members
  • Ability to publicly answer questions to the press or other interested parties regarding the mission and strategy for the organization 
  • Obtain any additional resources or volunteers to assist with accomplishing the defined strategy
  • Providing learning opportunities, encouragement, and leadership to the core team
  • Host regularly occurring virtual/in-person meetings to coordinate the team

The Executive Director will lead the Foodseum team to a new level of growth and will a key component to the success of Chicago's first nonprofit food museum. This is an excellent opportunity to lead an innovative high-profile, high-growth nonprofit looking to make a significant impact on Chicago's future.

Qualifications: 

  • Based in Chicago
  • High level of emotional intelligence
  • Excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience managing others
  • The ability to manage multiple campaigns simultaneously through excessive organization and communication
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to help other team members through it
  • Experience working with various project management tools
  • Open mind and desire to learn and work closely with a multi-faceted team
  • Enjoyment in keeping up with the latest trends in the food industry and culinary arena
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
  • Solid understanding of Google Docs, Dropbox, and Microsoft Office

Commitment

This position is a 20 hr / week commitment beginning immediately. This position is unpaid.
